The guided tour of the Old Salt Works takes about 45 minutes.Afterwards, you can visit the salt and brand museums individually.Please be on site a few minutes before the start of your booked tour time.

Guided tours of the Old Salt Works are generally conducted in German.However, we provide our guests with free translation texts in English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Czech and French.

The footpath through the Old Salt Works in Bad Reichenhall is about 400 metres long and easy to manage for people of average physical fitness. Please note, however, that you will have to climb approx. 270 steps on the guided tour of the historic salt springs.

To ensure maximum safety, we ask you to consider the following points:

  • Due to the risk of tripping, photography and filming are not permitted during the tour.
  • Please do not bring hats, sticks, backpacks, back carriers or other bulky items.You can lock smaller backpacks in our lockers during the tour.
  • Prams cannot be taken underground.There is no possibility to park prams in the Old Salt Works.
  • The path may be wet and slippery.Use handrails and be careful not to trip.

Please report to the ticket office a few minutes before your reserved tour with your reservation confirmation.

The Bad Reichenhall Old Salt Works is located in the centre of Bad Reichenhall and is close to several nearby cafés and restaurants.In the middle of the historic salt works area is the Salín restaurant, ideal for grabbing a bite before or after your visit to the Old Salt Works.

“Unter Tage” means something like “in the mine” or below the earth’s surface (under the ground).“Über Tage” means exactly the opposite - i.e. above the earth’s surface or above ground.The two terms come from the miners' language.

The guided tour of the historic salt springs includes 270 steps - these must be climbed! Due to the many steps and the narrow winding tunnels, it is not possible to visit the spring building of the Old Salt Works with a wheelchair. 

Persons with disabilities or limited mobility can only take part in the guided tour of the Old Salt Works after consultation with the supervisor.The escorts must be able to take the person out of the leadership area in problem situations.The supervisor may refuse access if it is evident that the tour would involve an increased risk for the person. In this case, the admission fee paid (and possibly also the accompanying person if they also waive their visit) will be refunded with the supervisor's signature.

If you suffer from claustrophobia, you are not allowed to visit the Old Salt Works in Bad Reichenhall for your own safety.

The Old Salt Works in Bad Reichenhall has limited paid parking spaces located directly in the grounds of the Alte Saline (Südhof / South Court and Nordhof / North Court).Additional paid public parking spaces are located on the Salinenstraße street.Please allow enough time to find a parking space.

Your booked appointment at the Old Salt Works in Bad Reichenhall is binding. If you arrive late or miss your tour, unfortunately your reservation will also be forfeited. Furthermore, a cancellation fee, as noted on your reservation confirmation, will apply. Therefore, please make sure you are there a few minutes before the tour starts.

The nearest coach parking area near the Alte Saline is at the Festplatz in Bad Reichenhall. If you let your guests off at the “Salinenstock” at the “Beamtenstock”, it is only a two-minute walk to the entrance of the Bad Reichenhall Old Salt Works.
